When we upgraded yesterday to 1.8 there were a whole host of incompatibilities which you have all helped to discover and report. This post will serve as a list of those problems so you are aware of them.
- Portable Horses no longer functions, meaning you cannot “release” horses from Saddles
- Placing spawners on the ground turns them all in to Pig Spawners
- You cannot silk-touch spawners at the moment it just doesn’t work
- Doors when protected by signs look odd and broken, the protection still works however
- You cannot use disguises. So don’t buy any disguise cards from Smelly Barry at the moment
- Our /picture feature doesn’t currently function
There may also be other issues but these are the main ones discovered so far. I will update this post or make a new post if more issues get discovered. Feel free to post any you find as comments to this post.
I know you’ve all really wanted us to upgrade to 1.8 and I have looked in to the possibility but honestly it’s still a ways off. But what I have done is given us the second best thing, 1.7.10 with protocol compatibility with 1.8 which also adds the new 1.8 mobs, blocks, recipes and mechanics.
This means now you can login to our server using the official 1.8 Mojang client and experience 90% of the new 1.8 content. And yes that does mean you’ll encounter bunnies in the wild and be able to make slime blocks that really bounce and stick to things.
To perform this “upgrade” we have lost a few features. Disguises do not work, our picture frame feature doesn’t work and we’ve lost Holograms. But everything else appears to be intact. Our online shop and auction system works as do our cards and easter eggs.
I will be adding the new 1.8 blocks to both our online shop and our auction system as fast as possible so you can use them soon. Thank you for your patience.
By the way Optifine came out yesterday for 1.8 and I highly recommend you install that as it greatly improves the performance of the game. Here is a direct link to that from the official Optifine website for 1.8: OptiFine_1.8.0_HD_U_A3.jar
A new building contest on our Survival server has been started. To enter simply pick a plot at the contest area at spawn (/warp contest) and begin building your entry.
The theme is Halloween!
Prizes: 2.5K 5K and 10K Rennies + All three winners will receive an exclusive Halloween card which was introduced last year and is making a reappearance for this years contest. It is a very rare card!
The contest has begun as of this post and ends on the 31st of October.
As I’m sure many of you have noticed the servers activity hasn’t been very high lately. There are many reasons for this but mostly it is due to us not upgrading to 1.8.
My personal interest in Minecraft is at the lowest it has ever been. There is a giant cloud of uncertainty over the future of the game and much of my contributions to our community may be in jeopardy due to the discontinuation of bukkit. It is this predicament that has muted my enthusiasm for the game.
To put it in other words, it is difficult for me to feel excited about the game when everything I’ve worked for may become irrelevant. All the hours working on the server writing custom software for us when I could have spent more time with my family only to have that work made redundant has left a bitter taste in my mouth.
The tone of this news post isn’t great and I want to make clear I don’t intend to close the server but I wanted to make my feelings known as you deserve to know the truth.
Today though MD_5 the creator of Spigot made a post on their official forums that he believes they will have a 1.8 version of Spigot within 2 months from now. If he and his team of developers are successful it will mean we can update to 1.8 and keep all the tools myself and Adrian have written over the past several years and it will give us 8 possibly 9 months before 1.9 is released to port everything over to Sponge stress free and at our leisure.
I am hopeful that MD_5 will be successful and if that is the case the activity on the server will bounce back. So while I do feel dejected, things aren’t all bad and a turnaround of our situation appears to be close.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding, I will make another post as soon as there is more information to be shared.
This is just a post to let you know the server was offline today for 30 minutes while an SAS SFF-8087 cable was changed within the server. This is a cable that allows the motherboards RAID card to talk to our hard drives. As of this post the server is back online.
