General ‘Renegades’ Update

Posted by on Aug 28, 2011 |

It has been quite a long time since I last did a renegades retrospective so I thought it would be a good idea to do one now.

Over the past 12 months our community has grown quite substantially and across different media. We got a new website (This one your reading right now) our forum was expanded, we launched Three game servers (Two on Minecraft, one on Garrys Mod). We now offer a ton of services to the WinMX community including the hosting of other peoples rooms on our huge server, Proxy Protection Code & API, IMDB API, Open Database Code + API, User Tracking API and in general we offer a whole bunch of code freely to the community.

We’ve not only provided scripts to WinMX hosters but we have also released our own version of Metis which corrects a deliberating flaw in the software and yes it’s Open Source!

If you’ve stumbled upon the site wondering why the Emails you previously received stopped arriving then I have a pretty boring explanation for you. When I designed the new website I decided to simply cull the old database. We moved from the Joomla CMS software (which in my opinion is going nowhere) and switched to WordPress and porting over peoples user accounts while possible was an unattractive prospect to me. We no longer send emails to users as a result and instead the News is just posted here for people to read when they want.

If you’ve not visited the Renegades Chat Room in a while you should totally do so. The room regularly has 80 users, it’s very stable and the chat is free flowing and always interesting. The services we’ve built up around the Renegades brand is incredible and we actually have over 1200 registered members across our three new Game servers alone which is completely separate to our WinMX community while sharing the same branding, site and forum.

More watchlist updates

Posted by on Aug 1, 2011 |

There has always been something that has bugged me about the watchlist. The background would never display correctly for iOS and Android based devices. Instead of repeating vertically as needed it would repeat both vertically and horizontally resulting in a messy and distracting look to the page. I’ve now corrected this by building in support for all iOS devices (iPod, iPhone, iPad) all Android devices and WebOS devices such as HP’s Pre phones. The detection will show these devices a smaller background that fits in to their graphics display buffer (2 Mega Pixel JPEG images seems to be the Maximum for iOS) and stops this annoying Horizontal repeating.

So yeah, quite a lot of updates to the watchlist recently and finally it looks good on my iPad! – I fully intend to add the ability for users to add shows to their watchlists from the WebUI itself in a future update, I don’t know when that will be but hopefully soon if I can get some other things out of the way. I’m quite happy with the slower development I’ve been doing this year with regards to the Renegades chat room, gives me more time to chill out.
