Server now only accepts v1.12.2 clients

Posted by on Nov 21, 2017 | 0 comments

For the past couple of months we’ve accepted both v1.12.1 and v1.12.2 clients, we’re now only accepting v1.12.2 because we need to be running the latest server version for security reasons.

If you need Optifine or Liteloader they have both been available for v1.12.2 for some time. Thanks!

New Easter Egg “Nirvana” by StankForDank added!

Posted by on Oct 27, 2017 | 0 comments

Today we have imported a beautifully designed new easter egg by <3 StankForDank the entrance of which is found within his spawn contest entry which we placed between the trail from the shops to the Mount Aino Lake (formally garden).

This Easter Egg features a unique card if you explore and complete all aspects of it. If you don’t you’ll not receive a unique card but the egg is rated “very high”.

This is a difficult egg to complete that will test all your parkour skills but also your intellect. The egg does feature checkpoints so don’t get too discouraged!

We hope you all have a great time playing this visually stunning Easter Egg. If you cannot locate the doorway at spawn you can of course enter through our /eggs menu.

Ricksterm is our latest Champion!

Posted by on Oct 22, 2017 |

You all know Rick, he has been a staff member on our server since 2012. In that time he has built many eggs, rated many builds, redesigned spawn several times, come up with many ideas that we have implemented and helped shape what RENMX has become.

His contribution to the server has been so huge that it’s hard to imagine what it would be like without all he has done for us, we would be a very different community without him.

For all this hard work I am bestowing upon him the honour of being our 4th Champion. Congratulations Rick!

WorldEdit and Voxel Sniper upgrades

Posted by on Oct 21, 2017 |

A few days ago we installed a new plugin on our Creative server called FAWE which greatly improves the performance of WorldEdit and VoxelSniper.

We’ve been testing it since then and have found some remarkable performance results. For example while it would take around 8 hours to import a 7 million block build previously it took just 3.095 seconds to perform the same 7 million block import with FAWE.

This kind of performance increase is practically unheard of and it extends to not just pastes but all the common WorldEdit and Voxel Sniper brushes and commands.

With such a huge boost in performance I thought it was important enough to make a news post about it, WorldEdit and VoxelSniper are accessible to our players who hold the rank of Architect, Artist, Engineer or higher on our Creative server.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

New Dynmap

Posted by on Oct 18, 2017 |

Over the past year we’ve had a lot of issues with our dynmap. The most common problem is it reloading repeatedly. This has been due to an incompatibility between the plugin and our IIS webserver.

Another issue has been your builds not being re-rendered on the dynmap, sometimes for months.

So to fix these issues we’ve switched the webserver that dynmap loads from and we’ve reconfigured how dynmap decides when to re-render your builds. We also increased the image quality by using 32 to 64 pixels to represent each block instead of the 4 pixels we were using previously.

Below is the cubic view of the map showing this increase in image quality

Of course the flat view is still present and has also seen a vast improvement in image quality as seen below.

At the moment the map is still rendering and it will be a few days until our entire survival map is viewable in this way but you can already see a vast improvement in visual quality with what is available right now.

Thanks for reading!

The Halloween Shop has arrived!

Posted by on Oct 17, 2017 |

Several times a year we have these shops pop up at spawn which offer players a way to exchange four units of a temporary currency that they obtain by playing our Easter Eggs for unique decorative heads.

In the past we’ve done it for Easter, Valentines Day and Christmas and we thought it would be a great idea to do it for Halloween too, especially with the current Halloween themed build contest this will be a great way for you all to get some decorations for your builds.

So the currency this year is a Happy Carved Pumpkin head which you can obtain by playing High (50% drop rate) and Very High (100% drop rate) rated Easter Eggs.

Remember to quickly access eggs you can use our /eggs menu which does support searching. So for example if you only like parkour eggs you can type /eggs parkour to only see those types of eggs.

We hope you all have fun with this event it will run until the morning after Halloween on November 1st.

I’d like to thank <3 Ricksterm for creating this event and doing the work which included making the temporary Halloween head shop at spawn and finding an appropriate head for the currency.

New workaround for Ghost Blocks

Posted by on Oct 11, 2017 |

When mining using a very fast pickaxe you may have noticed some blocks don’t get mined but they turn invisible. We added a fix for this last year where you can type /ghost <radius> to make these blocks re-appear.

Today we’ve added a second fix called /autoghost where once you type this command the ghost feature will be on automatically and you should not encounter any more “ghost” blocks.

The reason we’ve not enabled this feature by default is it does use more bandwidth so for our players on poor internet connections you may not want it enabled permanently.

Thanks.

Code Improvement

Posted by on Oct 10, 2017 |

Over the past several months you may have all noticed that a lot of features on the server have not been working correctly. Things such as:

  • PM System freezing and delays when sending messages
  • Delays when using /search
  • Delays when using the warehouse (/get, /store)
  • Egg entrances not teleporting you
  • Issues with /sell

And many other issues. All of these problems were related to our custom code bridge which is a piece of software we use to interface our custom code with our game servers.

Well I’m happy to announce that <3 AdrianL11 our Java developer and one of our three Administrators was able to rewrite the code bridge on the 8th of October and since then we have had no more issues with any of our custom software. Which means there has been no more freezing or delays when using any commands.

I’m incredibly grateful to Adrian for this hard work and I know you all will be too once you try some of our custom stuff once again.

TidgeMathPowerland

Today we’re saying goodbye to three members of staff, Tidge, MathPowerland (also known as Daigle) and Freakboy31

We’ve been immensely fortunate to have all of them as members of our staff team.

Math became a moderator on December 6th 2013 making him one of our longest serving Moderators, Tidge became a Moderator on March 6th 2015 and Freakboy31 became a moderator on June 23rd 2012 making him the longest continually serving member of staff apart from myself.

Although they’re stepping down now we may see one or more of them on the staff team again in the future when real life quietens down.

Thank you all for your commitment to our server over the past several years, I am incredibly grateful.

Changes to Daily Rewards

Posted by on Oct 9, 2017 |

Just over two months ago we added a new feature called Daily Rewards which rewards you for logging into the server every day and the rewards keep growing every day that you login consecutively.

Today we’ve made a slight alteration to the Daily Rewards system, now instead of getting it instantly on login you’ll receive your rewards after being online for 5 minutes. We feel this is a fair adjustment to the system so that it doesn’t get abused.

We’ve also enhanced the system slightly so you now get your daily rewards automatically meaning after being on the server for five minutes you don’t need to type /daily it will trigger itself automatically and when a new day begins if you’re already online at that time it will also self-trigger so you don’t need to do it.

We hope you like these changes I’m sure the new convenience features outweigh the new 5 minute minimum wait time.

Seven

Posted by on Sep 28, 2017 |

On the 26th of September our server turned seven years old, quite the milestone. Not many servers have been around that long, practically any server you think about or have played on has started after us or closed before us.

I just want to thank everyone for choosing to play with us on RENMX, we’ve made a lot of great things together on our server and I personally am very grateful for the experiences I’ve had with you all.

Here’s to another seven years!
